💛 A Day in the Life of Emma Yarlett 💛

Author and illustrator @emmayarlett tells us about her favourite page to illustrate in Nibbles: The Very Hungry Book Monster.

My favourite page from The Very Hungry Book Monster is the library scene. I’ve always spent a lot of time in libraries, ever since I was small and was took along by my mum to Oadby Library in Leicester. I love spending time finding and treasuring new books, entering imaginary worlds and curling up in the corner of a safe and warm community space nestles in amongst the bookshelves. So it was such a joy to finally be able to capture some of those feelings into a detailed scene... albeit a scene for Nibbles to destroy!

As you can see from the initial sketches - the idea for how this picture would look arrived pretty fully formed! Although the artwork itself did take a very long time to create. It’s made with a whole mix of things including paint, collage, pencil and gel pen.
