Stripes is a dynamic and innovative publisher of award-winning children’s fiction, and part of the 2018 IPG Children’s Publisher of the Year, the Little Tiger Group.

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative Managing Designer. This is a full-time, permanent position. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within the field and be able to demonstrate a passion for children’s books – from illustrated young fiction to YA. Alongside excellent design skills, a thorough knowledge of the market is required and the ability to mentor and motivate a small team.

Key duties:

• Manage the Design team and provide support as required
• Build existing brands, including Dirty Bertie and Holly Webb’s Animal Stories
• Commission illustrators and bring new talent to the list
• Develop innovative ideas and formats
• Manage schedules, budgets and contracts for print and digital formats
• Oversee and sign off on all titles going out to repro

You will be well-organised, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and you will thrive in a fluid working environment. Creative flair and a meticulous eye for detail are essential, as is technical expertise. A sense of humour is key, as is the ability to be flexible and turn your hand to a multitude 
of projects.

LITTLE TIGER PRESS - Production Controller

We are looking for a Production Controller to join a busy and skilled team, working on four-colour children's picture books, board books and Special Sales.

The job will involve the fulfilment of titles from receipt of files to delivery, working directly with suppliers in the Far East, coordinating schedules, managing co-edition print runs and negotiating print prices. Therefore, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both in-house departments and external suppliers is essential.

The ideal candidate will already be working within a book production environment, with a minimum of 1 years experience. They will have strong organisational and problem-solving skills as well as a can-do attitude. Any safety testing experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Work Experience

Are you interested in a career in publishing? Would you like to learn more about how a children’s publishing house works, gain valuable experience in the industry, and discover what it takes to bring a children’s book to life?

Little Tiger Press offers work experience placements in the Editorial and Design departments. These are unpaid (although we do cover expenses of up to £10 per day) and usually last a fortnight.

Work experience at Little Tiger amounts to much more than tea-making and photocopying. Tasks will vary – from reading new picture book submissions alongside an editor, to assisting the design team, you’ll certainly be kept busy!
