The first ever UK Young Adult literature convention was held last weekend and provided a host of author events including signings, workshops and talks. The authors gave insights on a variety of topics from upcoming YA trends, to how they write. Here are our top five quotes from the weekend and our photos!

‘Dystopian fiction is about the power of the individual to effect change … on an entire society, no matter how bad that society is.’ Malorie Blackman (Author of the Noughts and Crosses series, Noble Conflict, Pig Heart Boy)

‘YA is huge. It has room for happy endings, it has room for sad.’ Patrick Ness (Author of the Chaos Walking trilogy, A Monster Calls, More Than This)

‘I write the scenes I like first. I write the fight scenes. I write the drunk scenes. I write the sex scenes.’ Non Pratt (Author of Trouble)

‘Read the bloody books you want to read!’ Meg Rosoff (Author of How I Live Now, There is No Dog, Picture Me Gone)

‘It’s a desperate fallacy that a book has to be complex to be worthwhile’ Nick Lake (Author of Hostage Three, In Darkness)
